Fraudsters Like Holidays Too!

Do you know why?

Because holidays are prime hunting grounds! With festive spirits high and attention low, fraudsters find it easy to exploit the holiday buzz.

Here's how they do it:

🎁 People focus on finding deals and gifts, which makes them more susceptible to phishing emails or scam websites offering "good" deals.

🕒 People often make quick decisions during the holiday rush, increasing the risk of falling for social engineering tactics.

🎆 Holiday evoke emotions like nostalgia, love, joy and generosity which often leads to reduced vigilance, making it easier to miss red flags.

🛒 With our busy schedules we shop more for gifts online, and so it's easier for fraudsters to lure us into fake e-commerce sites, phishing schemes, or package delivery scams.

🎄 Fraudsters craft scams specific to the holiday, like fake charity requests, "Secret Santa" giveaways, or phony holiday bonuses.

📉 Companies may operate with reduced staff, or the sheer volume of customers causes security monitoring to be weaker than usual.

💳 Higher transaction volumes mean that unusual activities are less noticeable, allowing fraudsters to blend in with legitimate transactions.

🎉 Happy Diwali to my Indian colleagues and friends, and to all those who celebrate Diwali!

🚨 Stay alert, even when celebrating! Fraudsters don't take a holiday.
